All you Rooms by Mitsch Kohn
Agnes Boulloche is proposing to lead us with her new painting in a different dimension, a world of little creatures , a combinations of plans, a world designed by the imagination of a great painter. The text, written in a fantasy way, will complete the visual part of the painting this text goes with her picture when she is at work
Promenade avec la Lune
(Title of the new Work - Size : 73 x 60 cm - 28 x 23 inches)
Here it is the ambient of my atelier from the Isle of Rhé, on the Atlantic French Coast, a wild land crossed by tides and by the air charged with little drops of water. I paint on wood panel exposed to the north light surrounding by my “gris-gris”
Step 1 - The Drawing
The just beginning, a very light design
with a crayon design paper coloured okra.
It’s just an sketch right now, I have no idea
what it will be really, just an unicorn ride by
a sort of a creature and I still keep free to
modify every things i feel necessary... Making
the drawing of the painting takes a very short
time like half a day because it took me enough
time to think about it before and also because it
is just a schema that I do not need to follow...
Step 2
It seem that the creature riding the
unicorn will be a young lady. I paint
with oil colours diluting with white spirit
and linseed oil using the colours in very thin
laying, this help a lot if you may change the
intensity of the painting.
Step 3
The movement of the unicorn is coming
Step 4
Now they are going well together,
the human creature and the animal.
I have always thought that they were
made to live in a perfect harmony.
Step 5
A little guy is coming designing the way to
the unicorn, the choose of the red hat is the
beginning of the colors that will empty the
painting. It’s nice to begin by a geranium red.
It’s like a guide.
Step 6
Here they come, the problems! Will this guy
be in the first plan or behind the unicorn?
Step 7
I don’t feel him in this position so I try
to make his face smaller but it still doesn’t
fit into the subject, dammit!!
Dammit (in French "merde alors")
Step 8
I forgot to talk about the umbrella because
I was so contraries by the size of the face
of the little guy with the red hat, the umbrella
seem perfect and hopefully the modifications
on the face of this guy suit better. I forgot
to explain the little owl in the hat of the girl
but for me it’s so natural that I just don’t
think about mentioning it.
Step 9
Now things seem to get better, we will see...
Step 10

GV. Tomorrow Agnes will tell us the title of her
fantastic Art Work
Step 11
I just do not know from where did this
moon come, it was not expected at all
but it’s like it have ever been on this
unicorn so the title of the painting will be:
“Promenade avec la Lune”
Step 12
I added some colour to the little one

Step 18
It takes a long time to paint the landscape.
I have to do it in two parts because the oil
paint that I used in transparent laying dry very
fast so the other part will be done later...
Step 19
Atelier in this moment pic: I paint on wood
panels using old glaze technique which consist
in superimposing thin transparent layers of
colors and make it possible to combine fine
strokes and luminous tints. I also use various
alchemical formulas to create my own
pigments, mediums and varnishes.

Step 20
Step by step, trees after trees, leaves after leaves,
the landscape is coming...

I wish you a nice weekend see you next week.

Step 22
It took a very long time and I have to go
fast because the painting is drying very quick.
Step 23
And then appears a little owl hidden in a dead tree. Now
that the landscape is painted, the panel needs at least
one week to dry before beginning the laying concerning
the sky and a clear laying on the landscape too. That is
why I put a post it on it, if I do not wait enough, I can
destroy all the painting in the next step, I have to be
prudent because being patient do not suit with my
very impatient character!

Step 24
Now it comes a very tricky part, I just have
one day for the laying on the sky. First step,
choosing the colors and smear the background.
Step 25
Then begin to mix them together

Step 26
Again and again with a very smooth hand to
do not damage the subject.

Step 27
As I mentioned on 26 :-))) Again and Again

Step 28
Now after at least thousand of brushstrokes
it begins to look like a sky.
Step 29
I begin to clean the top part of the painting
while I am still laying on the landscape
Step 30
Ouf!! It seems OK, if it was not, I would have
had to repaint the whole painting. It is a little
bit stressing but very exciting!
At this point I have to let the lying dry at
least a week, so I am always painting two
or tree panels in the same time, in this way
I can let them dry successively.
Finaly
It is very long to finish all the details and not very spectacles. It is a very technical part and not very exciting because at this point, I can not change the things, I can just precise a detail or another, modify the intensity of a colour, paint a transparent white laying or add detail. At this point, it is nearly finished! The painting needs again to dry before being varnished. Varnish is a very tricky part because it needs to be very fast and with the perfect weather, humid but without rain and wind and I have to be very concentrated without any people or animals disturbing me and it is not so easy to keep them quiet! After being varnished, all the colors, lights and shades find their real dimensions and deeps and also it unifies the painting in a nice way.
